Baptism is a public expression of an inward faith in Christ and the desire to follow Him. Jesus was baptized so we, as believers, want to follow His example. After the resurrection of Jesus, He told His followers to spread the news of His resurrection, baptize those who believe, and make disciples of them, or teach them to learn how to be like Christ. When a person is baptized, they are expressing to the church and community their belief in Christ and their desire to follow Him and become His disciple. Baptism is NOT for those who are perfect (none of us are), it is for those who desire to continue their journey towards becoming more like Jesus. Read Matthew 3:16 and Matthew 28: 18-20.

FAQ ABOUT BAPTISM

Does Baptism save me? Baptism is not an act that sets God's forgiveness in motion, but rather a public acknowledgement that you believe. The Bible, God's Word to us, tells us that if we simply believe and receive that reconciliation, we are saved. His word tells us that God created us for Himself. It is because of our sin, and God's lack of sin that we were separated from His original intent of a relationship with Him. God loved us so much and wanted to restore us, He sent His Son out of desperate love for us and to restore our relationship with Him. Read John 3:16 and Romans 10:9-10

What does Baptism symbolize? The act of baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and our identification with Him. It also symbolizes death to sin with the old way of life, and rising with Him to a new life, free from the power of sin and death. Read Romans 6:3-8 and Colossians 2:12

Can My Baby Get Baptized? At NewLife we only practice believer's baptism for those who have made a personal and knowledgeable decision to believe and follow Christ. For parents who wish to entrust their child publicly to Christ and seek the church's help in raising the child in the Christian faith, NewLife periodically provides a child dedication service.

Will I have to say anything publicly? The pastor who is performing the baptism will ask if you have made a decision to believe and follow Christ. A simple "yes" or "yes, I have" is sufficient. However, if you wish to read your testimony, please let us know in the form above.

What should I wear? Baptism is performed during the service, so there is not time to change clothes before baptism. Please arrive early and we will provide a t-shirt to you to wear. It is a good idea to wear a bathing suit underneath your clothing and bring a change of clothes.

What should I bring? Please bring a large towel. Some people have felt more comfortable bringing a robe to wear over wet clothing. If you forget your towel, we will provide one.
